Progress on zoom yesterday

 I'm starting to join the blocks together at last. Yesterday on a zoom patchwork day I pressed and trimmed all blocks, cut sashing and put some of the blocks together. 

Jeanette's Latest Creations

 Here are some of Jeanette's latest quilts. The first one is her dark version of the Briar Rose quilt we have started putting together.

We are now about to sew our cream version of Briar Rose and have started thinking about how to construct Stephanie's Shiny Blue. As we've had to cancel our next group gathering please let me know if you'd like to organise a pop up day anytime.

A busy day in the patching salt mines

 Yesterday our little group spent a lot of time sewing and working on the quilts we have in progress. This work was interspersed with chatting over lunch and afternoon tea and joining 3 others on Zoom.

Our two Blue Heaven quilts are now labelled and the other two shown below on the banister have labels. We've called the green one Almost Celtic and the flower one Glenda's Flower Garden. The blocks on the design wall have now been pressed, trimmed and arranged ready for joining next time.

Then we had fun arranging our shiny blue blocks on the back of the design wall. Sizing is going to be an issue in some cases but last night, instead of sleeping, I worked out what we can do to enlarge some of the smaller blocks and add wadding where it has been trimmed off.

Then while Elaine and I were watching The Sewing Bee on Britbox we had a bit of inspiration about framing each block. Each one will be framed with purple (about a 1/2" strip, with a tiny peeper (about 1/8") of a bright colour (each block having a different colour). There will then be white sashing between all the framed blocks.

Here are some of the colours we have chosen for the peepers and we have found almost enough for each block to be different.

So of course much of my sleep time last night working out how to mitre the corners of each tiny frame!!! That way the peepers will not cross the purple frame during construction.

Our latest quilt finishes

 Here are our first quilt finishes for 2022. As yet not labelled or found an owner but we'll do that at our next gathering.

Liz's latest creations

 Liz will not be able to join us on Zoom this time but has sent photos of her latest creations for a challenge they were give at the local club.

They were given 25 random squares to do what they like but each square was to be visible and not cut or folded.

Liz says: "After copying Betty's habit of saving squares I had lots more to incorporate and then I used appliqued shapes to partly cover the worst of the mismatches. I was pleased with my effort but missed the deadline to hand it in!"

"I also entered two 12" square blocks in the NZ National 'Brown' challenge. I felt quite brave because they have a really high standard but I don't think mine looked out of place. Mine are second from the left and second from the right in the top row."

Elaine made a "Roosters" gift

 Here is the cushion and quilt Elaine made for a friend. The colours are those of the Sydney Roosters rugby team.

I like the little cornerstones - very cool touch.

Our April Gathering

 We were six people who gathered last weekend for our April patchwork gathering. I spent most of the day quilting one of the blue friendship star quilts and I hope to get the next one done today. The binding is on the first one now waiting for someone to adopt the handsewing bit.

We were able to add borders to the green star quilt and to the flower top (seen in the photo above).

Then the joy of arranging Jeanette's Briar Rose blocks which are now on the design wall awaiting trimming and joining. No sashing required for this top.

One of the jobs I did during all this rain was to do a big tidy of all the junk that had littered our space upstairs for years and I also changed the cover on the bed to be more in keeping with the new curtains and cushion covers. This will stay until I finish the Peaches and Cream doily quilt I am making.

From a friend near Lismore

 She writes: "yesterday we went to Kyogle (since poor Lismore is still recovering) to get supplies and went to the small art gallery there. We were delighted to see some amazing quilts, and I thought you'd be interested in seeing some of them. I didn't have a camera with me so couldn't capture the whole range - some traditional geometric ones and some more radical. Here's a webpage with the whole set of panels - there were only two at the exhibition, really stunning close-up.

Two of Christine's latest quilts

Christine showed us these on Zoom last weekend but in case you missed them she has sent me pictures as well..

Christine writes ... "photographs of the quilts I showed you, one was using up my orphans and if you look closely you will see several Rainbow Quilter blocks, I like you idea about using the same fabrics and then putting together as a quilt.

The second one still needs quilting and a binding but the effect can be seen in the unfinished product, it also was inspired using a trial block for BOM but I did have sufficient fabric to create a whole quilt."
