Our quilt in its new home

Carol has collected the quilt that she won and has it in its new home. It looks great!

It is particularly appropriate that Carol has this one as she did most of the quilt top construction using the blocks we all supplied including all those intricate borders.

Another quilt from Elaine

There is something to be said about being mostly stuck at home. Elaine has finished another quilt. Well done Elaine! Many thanks to Jenny for the fabrics too.

Butterflies

This was featured online this morning in one of the patchwork blogs I follow. So I went upstairs and made one. Take a look at this YouTube link.

Such fun, and they'd be great in silks and lace.

Chocolate Bars - Betty's latest orphan block quilt

Here is my latest show and tell in the quilt department. I've called it Chocolate Bars.

This one is created from all my "brown" orphan blocks and considering the disparate collection of block designs did not turn out too badly.

If you can think of an owner for this one please let me know.

Elaine's latest - Cat on the Wall

Elaine came to play today and after finishing her latest RCQ block she helped me with more curtains for upstairs.

Stephanie had come over yesterday and we started cushion covers and curtains too.

Elaine's latest quilt is Cat on the Wall. I think this one is great.

Jeanette's Scrappy Quilt

When Jeanette received her instructions from me about her Briar Rose blocks she realised it was the scrappy quilt she is currently working on. However, she is using 1.5" squares!

I love it, and it looks great with dark lattice too.

A clickable picture of our next block

As the picture on the instructions I have just written is a bit small I am adding it here. If you click on the picture here you can zoom in and see the stitching and detail.

Three finished quilts to draw

Stephanie and I have finished three quilts during our lockdown and I present them here. We saw them on Zoom yesterday but if you click on them here you can see them a bit better.

They all look great in real life. Thank you for your blocks.

Rather than draw between everyone and then have them turned down in a bit of a process we thought it would possibly work better if anyone who would like to be in the draw actually just emails me to put their name down. I will then draw between the requests I get. Closing date for name submission is Sunday 3rd October 2021.

If I receive no name requests the quilts will go to charity.

In future please return your blocks by then end of the month after which you received your fabric. So for those who have received their fabric Sep 2021 please return the blocks by the end of Oct 2021.

Bubble Buddies together again

Yesterday Stephanie and I got together again and have progress to show for our day.

We were able to tack the stars ready for me to quilt...

Stephanie finished the borders on the snowball quilt. We will quilt it on her machine next week some time.

Then it was play time so we pinned up what we have of the friendship star blocks that have been returned. Lots of fun and thinking how to put it together yet retain the spiral nature of the design.

There is plenty of room for the others so we'll wait until we get them from you.

Our next finish

At last I have finished the binding and label of our latest quilt - Grevillea Sampler. Stephanie has fussy quilted this one in the many different ditches.

If anyone would like to be in the draw for this one please let me know. I'll try and get a better photo. Even though the photo appears blurry here it is not actually. I'm not sure what is happening.

Elaine's latest table runners

I like the little peeper on the border of the second mat.

And some seminole in the bottom mat too.

They look great Elaine.

Elaine's Fidget Mat

Elaine has completed her Fidget Mat for her grandgirls. They has asked for one. I love the marble track.

It looks amazing with lots of fidgety things to do and textures to feel. I hope they are pleased.

Bubble Buddies get working

Stephanie and I had a great time this week as Bubble Buddies.

Stephanie has quilted Elaine's sampler and I am in the process of binding it in front of TV.

We have nearly finished the Snowball quilt top but it needs another border yet. We'll get onto that next Tuesday when we get together again.

This Tuesday we got out the Wonky Stars and today we finished making sense of them so we have now finished that quilt top.

It really looks quite stunning and we've chosen a polar fleece batting and a backing so next week we'll tack those together and I'll start the quilting. The grey background is actually Stephanie's carpet, not a border.

Betty's Leaders and Enders done

I just finished hemming this one in time for our Zoom this afternoon. I really like it so I hope you do too.

Thanks for your help with decision making.

I still have to trim all the end threads and label it but to all intents and purposes it is done.

Now to find a home for it.

Made from fabrics given to her by Jenny.

Two more finishes for the group

The twin Bargello quilts that Stephanie and I quilted on her machine are now done. Labels are printed and I'll sew those on in front of TV. I have also photographed the pieced backs made from some Bargello blocks that did not quite fit with the others.

These quilts will go to Linda. She won one and will pay for the other. It was a fun experiment.

All those Leaders and Enders!

You can't even see the hole I have made in my little basket of Leaders and Enders that we continue to make but lots have been used.

Here is my progress so far with Snail Trails.

I think I am going to stop at this size and give it a calico binding. I've no idea yet how I will quilt it.

Progress last week

During the week Stephanie (my Bubble Buddy) and I moved a few more quilts just one step closer to completion.

I was excited to go to her place and try using her quilting machine - what a huge beauty!

I have now added binding to the two Bargello quilts and am sitting in the evenings hand sewing around and then will add labels.

Stephanie still has the sampler quilt and we'll quilt that on another of our days together.

Our next achievements have been to  make two blocks for our next group quilt and write the instructions. I really loved the Ohio Quilt and have suggested we make blocks of lots of different sizes again.

We unpacked all the Snowball blocks and have trimmed those and arranged them on the design wall. We will be sashing with black (yes I have some!) to create the top then considering whether borders are required or not.

Meanwhile, I continue making little Snail Trail blocks for my lockdown quilt. It is looking good so far.

Three quilts finally complete

Stephanie and I, as Bubble Buddies were able to photograph the last three quilts that were finished some time ago which now makes those quilts complete and ready to go to their owners or charity.

Ohio Star - was won by Linda but she is swapping it for one of the Bargello quilts. This quilt has now been adopted by Karen W.

Jenny's Flowers - this is being bought by a friend of mine (another Jenny) who wants it for her bedroom. The money will go to charity.

Winding Ways - Elaine has done some hand quilting on this one and you can see it if you click on the picture and zoom in closely. Does anyone love this quilt enough to claim it?

Christine's Doiley Quilt is finished

My Doily Quilt – finished at long last – evolved over the years but I am happy with the finished product though it is not like my original plans.Thank you for your input and inspiration – it is another tick off the list

It looks fantastic Christine.

Betty's Progress

I am making lots of these at the rate of about 6 per day between getting outside with the dog, cooking, cleaning and zooming in lockdown.

i really like the ocean waves I think. I'd love to be able to quilt these waves eventually but will see how I go.

Karen's temperature quilt progress

I'm persevering with my temperature quilt, and have nearly done the first half of the year. Attached is a sample of the blocks from March (1st March is at top left). The colours are reasonably close but not quite true. What looks white, for example, is actually very pale green. Regrettably, my sewing machine is starting to sound like a chaff-cutter, so I have my fingers crossed that it will keep working until I can get out and take it for a service.

This is going to be a colourful one!

A brain challenge from Elaine

Putting her blocks on point as suggested in our last Zoom gathering gave Elaine a headache but WOW what a result.

I love the colour themes in the blocks.

Elaine remarks that she does not know whether to thank or curse the person who suggested she put them on point.

Betty needs help please

I've started doing Snail Trail blocks with all my scraps and leaders and enders. I've now got to the stage of deciding -

  • do I keep them small as in the top row?
  • do I add another triangle on each as shown below left?
  • do I make the second row twist the other way rather than making them all twist in the same direction?

If you click on the picture you will see it bigger.

Don't worry about the blocks that are not quite so obviously twisted as I can always put them in the corners or just leave them out.

If you have any suggestions please leave a comment below or just email me.

Thanks.

A single bed topper.

Stephanie is inspired

My school of fish is progressing very nicely.  I hope a shark doesn’t come along and upset things.

I’m aiming at 8 x 8 patches which will make it 60 x 60.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. My head space is much improved.

Jeanette's Show and Tell

As Jeanette may not be home in time this afternoon for our Zoom she has sent me some pics of her current works.

Our first Fish School

 Thanks Stephanie for the fun.

Stephanie says:

It amuses me no end to think I’m making leaders and enders and I have you to thank for renewing my interest in patching even tiny pieces
